There is a lack of importance placed on having a back-up career plan as an athlete. Risk of injury or circumstances such as a pandemic can leave athletes without purpose in an instant.
This issue is what lead to my design topic, experiential information design can help those who are ill-prepared for an inevitable career change, to look forward to, and achieve, exciting careers post-retirement. Using athletes as a case study, this project has deployed design to educate athletes about the transferable skills they can offer in alternative careers and equip them with the necessary means to consider a purposeful direction beyond sport.
