The Roses Rot in the Cul-de-sac is a photographic project researching the uncanny within the New Zealand Suburbia. The motivation was sparked through the portrayal of the American suburbia within the horror genre. Horror films turned the American Dream into an American Nightmare. I began to wonder how can photography investigate the visuality of the horror genre, to draw our attention to the uncanny within the New Zealand suburban landscape?
