This research explores character design for female empowerment, within an adaptation of popular Qing Dynasty novel, Flowers in the Mirror. The heroine character, Shan epitomises the tensions between dutiful daughter and independent woman. The visualisation of the final threshold designs consider both character appearance and self-awareness of the main character Shan, but also how her actualisation is mirrored within the design of her male counterpart the Prince at key points within the narrative.
